Colvita - The Facts
Poland is the only place in the world where the complete set of all amino acids that form the collagen helix is obtained through the lyophilization of native collagen isolated at the molecular level.
It is also important to note that most so-called “collagen” dietary supplements available on pharmacy shelves are, in reality, nothing more than hydrolyzed bovine (or even porcine & chicken) fiber or simple gelatin. Once proteins undergo hydrolysis, they lose their biological activity and are no longer as effective.
Collagen supplementation becomes increasingly essential as we age. From the age of 26, the body’s natural collagen production begins to decline, leading to a host of issues: brittle, lackluster hair, loss of skin firmness and elasticity, and discomfort in the joints and spine. However, by taking collagen orally, we can help prevent or alleviate these symptoms, promoting healthier skin, hair, and overall joint function.
Quote of the medical Nobel Prize laureates:
“Cancer is a disease of organic collagen. It kills once so many of its fibres are destroyed that further organ function support is no longer possible. It is a direct consequence of the weakening of the immune system. The functionality of this system also depends on the exchange of organic collagen – Macfarlane Burnet
“The growth of a tumor begins when cells switch from oxidation to fermentation – when they start attacking collagen.”– A. Szent-Gyorgi
The key ingredient in Colvita is lyophilized collagen hydrate sourced from fish skin. Each capsule contains 0.24 g of pure collagen-building compounds, boasting an impressive 99% Net Nitrogen Utilization (NNU). With consistent supplementation, this precise dosage is sufficient to replenish collagen deficiencies, stimulate cellular regeneration, and enhance collagen biosynthesis.
What sets Colvita apart is its complete amino acid profile, including two essential components – hydroxylysine and hydroxyproline – which cannot be obtained from any dietary source. These amino acids are exclusively produced through collagen synthesis and metabolic processes in vertebrates, making them vital for maintaining healthy connective tissues.
Moreover, the collagen in Colvita is nearly 100% anabolic, meaning it is not broken down for energy or wasted but is fully utilized for building and repairing cells. Its exceptional bioavailability ensures direct absorption from the intestine, bypassing the need for enzymatic digestion and maximizing its effectiveness.
Colvita’s FREE AMINO ACIDS:
- Glycine – an important regulator of DNA synthesis (acid)
- Proline – an important anabolic
- Lysine – a co-founder of hormones and enzymes
- Alanine – blood sugar control & glucose metabolism
- Tyrosine – antidepressant & thyroid hormones maker
- Arginine – erection’s promoter
- Methionine – an antidepressant and an ally of the liver

Fish only have a semblance of the immune system, but in spite of this, it will never transmit diseases to humans. Collagen in fish skin, obtained at the molecular stage (helical) is the same as in the more developed vertebrates and is completely safe for humans.
Colvita also contains vitamin E isoforms: δ-tocotrienol and γ-tocotrienol. Tocotrienols[link] are characterised by resistance to oxygen, UV rays and many other degradative factors and they are 100% biologically active. In addition, tocotrienol has been suggested to have anti-ageing action[link], anti-diabetic[link] and anti-tumor[link] effect indicating, that tocotrienol may serve as an effective agent in the prevention and/or treatment of cardiovascular disease[link] and cancer[link]
Vitamin E was the first medicine to be given the term „elixir of youth” in the twentieth century. It adds vitality, vigour, energy, and zest for life. It stimulates the synthesis of collagen, improves skin appearance and protects against infertility. It is the body’s main antioxidant guard for cell membranes and red blood cells. One molecule of vitamin E protects against free radicals; over 200 molecules of unsaturated fatty acid. It works closely with vitamin C, carotenoids, selenium, chromium and zinc.
Colvita also contains a highly micronized powder derived from the conceptacles (oogonia and antheridia) of Fucus vesiculosus, a remarkable species of bladderwrack. This unique marine algae serves as a bridge between biotope and biocoenosis, exhibiting an extraordinary ability to absorb and concentrate virtually all trace elements and minerals found in seawater. Most importantly, it provides these essential nutrients in a plant-assimilable form, making them highly bioavailable for human absorption.
The exceptional nutritional richness of Fucus vesiculosus ensures that, when harvested for premium supplements, all plant components are utilized, with only sodium chloride (salt) removed. Sourced specifically from the pristine waters of the North Atlantic – where it is neither exposed to artificial growth stimulation nor subjected to extreme temperatures – this algae is a treasure trove of rare and valuable nutrients.
To preserve its full spectrum of active compounds and vitality, Fucus vesiculosus undergoes an advanced “cell burst process” rather than conventional drying methods. This cutting-edge technique, performed in state-of-the-art French laboratories under stringent pharmaceutical standards, ensures maximum potency and bioavailability.
Bladderwrack extract was chosen as a key component of Colvita due to its unparalleled ability to provide a complete plant complex of micro- and macroelements, vitamins, and synergistic compounds that enhance amino acid activity. At the time of Colvita’s formulation, it was the most comprehensive natural source of these essential nutrients.
This algae powder is a true nutritional powerhouse. It is exceptionally rich in essential minerals, including calcium, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, potassium, selenium, phosphorus, chromium, and zinc, in both organic (diiodotyrosine) and inorganic forms. It also provides a broad spectrum of vitamins: A, B, C, E, and K -alongside carbohydrates, fiber, polysaccharides, and exogenous amino acids. Additionally, it contains powerful bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, carotenoids, mucopolysaccharides (including alginic acid and fucoidan), mannitol, and bioflavonoids, the most notable being flavone-3-d (OPC).
Once sodium chloride is removed, the micronized algae powder becomes an almost perfectly balanced complex of vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds. Its mineral composition closely resembles that of human body fluids, making it exceptionally easy to digest and absorb, thus maximizing its nutritional benefits.
Taking Collagen Supplements
Between 1–10% of muscle tissue is composed of collagen. This protein is necessary to keep your muscles strong and functioning properly (1.link ). Studies suggest that collagen supplements help boost muscle mass in people with sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass that happens with age (2.link ).
In one study, 27 frail men took 15 grams of collagen while participating in an exercise program daily for 12 weeks. Compared to men who exercised but did not take collagen, they gained significantly more muscle mass and strength (3.link ).
Researchers have suggested that taking collagen may promote the synthesis of muscle proteins such as creatine, and may also stimulate muscle growth after exercise (4.link ).
More research is necessary to investigate collagen’s potential to boost muscle mass.
Human bones are made mostly of collagen, which gives them structure and helps keep them strong (5. link). As collagen in our body deteriorates as we age, bone mass does too. This may lead to conditions such as osteoporosis, which is characterized by low bone density & linked with a higher risk of bone fractures (6.link , 7. link). Studies have shown that taking collagen supplements may have certain effects in the body that help inhibit the bone breakdown that leads to osteoporosis (8 link, 9. link).
In one study, women took either a calcium supplement combined with 5 gr. of collagen or a calcium supplement and no collagen daily for 12 months. By the end of the study, the women taking the calcium and collagen supplement had significantly lower blood levels of proteins that promote bone breakdown than those taking only the calcium (10.link ).
Another study found similar results in 66 women who took 5 grams of collagen daily for 12 months.
The women who took the collagen had an increase of up to 7% in their bone mineral density (BMD), compared to women who did not consume collagen (11.link ). BMD is a measure of the amount of minerals, such as calcium, in your bones. Low BMD is associated with weak bones and the development of osteoporosis (12.link ). These results are promising, but more human studies are needed before the role of collagen supplements in bone health can be confirmed.
Hair and nails
Taking collagen may increase the strength of your nails by preventing brittleness. Additionally, it may stimulate your hair and nails to grow longer (13.link ).
Collagen helps maintain the integrity of the cartilage, which is the rubber-like tissue that protects your joints. As the amount of collagen in your body decreases as you get older, your risk of developing degenerative joint disorders such as osteoarthritis increases (14. link). Some studies have shown that taking collagen supplements may help improve symptoms of osteoarthritis and reduce joint pain overall (15 link & 16 link).
In one study, 73 athletes who consumed 10gr. of collagen daily for 24 weeks experienced a significant decrease in joint pain while walking & at rest compared to a group that did not take it (17 link ). In another study, adults took two grams of collagen daily for 70 days. Those who took collagen had a significant reduction in joint pain and were better able to engage in physical activity than those who did not take it (18. link).
Collagen may accumulate in cartilage and stimulate tissues to make collagen, may lead to lower inflammation, better support of the joints and reduced pain (19.link).
